Just when you thought the sunsets on Captiva couldn’t possibly get any better—leave it ‘Tween Waters Inn Resort to make them even more spectacular. How? With the ability to pre-order a sunset picnic basket.

I thought a sunset picnic would be a great way to jazz up our usual ‘grab a beach towel and sit on the sand’ sunset routine. And jazz it up, it did!

Plus, the entire process was so easy. All I had to do was call at least 24 hours in advance to reserve our basket; answer a few questions as to whether we wanted shrimp cocktail or crab claws; red or white wine (Merlot, Zinfandel, Chardonnay, or Chandon Sparkling); and what time we wanted to pick up our basket at Captiva House restaurant.

In addition to the fresh seafood and wine, the baskets are overflowing with seasonal fruits like strawberries, grapes, bananas, pears and apples; an entire container of everyone’s favorite sliced and cubed cheeses, a sleeve of gourmet crackers, all the lemons and sauces you’ll need, even snack bars for dessert.

There was so much food in the basket, four of us ate and we still had leftovers. The price is only $75 plus tax and gratuity and you can keep the basket if you want. You can even have it billed directly to your room.

The sunset picnic baskets are BYOB—Bring Your Own Blanket—and if you’re bringing the kids along like we did, you’ll want to pack some drinks for them to enjoy.

I have to admit, I’m a little spoiled now. I’m not sure I can simply go back to my beach towel on the sand after I’ve had chilled shrimp with lemon wedges and huge, hulled strawberries. Honey, can we do that again?
