The MacDonald Family visited Captiva Island and ‘Tween Waters Inn for a adventure-filled fishing trip, featured this weekend on Bass 2 Billfish — a spectacular fishing show on Versus.
The family explored the area, catching snook, bass and even goliath grouper. Dad Mike and daughter Maggie competed for biggest, best fish — Maggie won of course, and even Mom tried out Goliath Grouper fishing.
Peter Miller was a great host, bringing them out to ‘Tween Waters Inn to enjoy the fishing, plus kayaking and even the crab races. It all aired this weekend, but be sure to check for reruns of this classic trip to Captiva.

The BP oil spill is still hundreds of miles away from Southwest Florida and it’s highly unlikely that it will affect the beautiful beaches of Captiva Island.
However, ‘Tween Waters does not want to take any chances. We have just initiated our new “Clean Tween Policy” to ensure that our visitors can plan and reserve vacations at the resort without financial concern.
This policy provides a full refund, including taxes, should the beaches of Captiva Island be closed by state or federal officials due to oil concerns during a guest’s stay at the Resort. The Resort hopes that the “Clean ‘Tween Policy” will allow people to plan their dream vacations to Captiva Island without worry.
Also, guests are reminded to keep checking the live beach cam on the ‘Tween Waters website if they want to get a glimpse of the beach with their own eyes.
For more information concerning the policy, visit www.tween-waters.com or call 800.223.5865.
It’s a beautiful second week and June, and surprisingly, the beaches are active and full on Captiva Island, Florida on the Gulf of Mexico.
Reports continue flowing in regarding the BP Oil Spill and it’s disastrous effects on Louisiana, Alabama and Florida Panhandle, and everyone in Southwest Florida truly has his and her hearts, hopes and prayers with anyone who is being affected by the spill, either physically or financially.
What is truly disheartening in Southwest Florida is the association that visitors have in relation to the size of the oil spill and it’s current location. Recently, oil touched the Pensacola region of Florida, more than 400 miles from the shores of Sanibel and Captiva Islands, yet headlines reported “Oil has hit Florida” and “Oil Disaster Hitting Florida” mixed with messages reagarding both oil in the Panhandle and the potential of hitting the Florida Keys makes for a very perfect storm — an unemployment, loss in tourism, loss in business storm surely touching every part of the state.
It’s a generalization that is costing many regions, even far from the spill. Despite any physical effects and the immense distance from the spill, hotels on the Islands of Captiva and Sanibel are being proactive about these headlines, offering discounts, beach guarantees and even 24-hour cancelation policies.
And this proactive approach seems to be working. The message appears to be “Your Vacation is Safe” and as I report from the beaches at ‘Tween Waters Inn on Captiva Island, the message seems to be affective. I not only saw clean, white-sand beaches, but I also witnessed plenty of guests enjoying the beaches and sun.
The future still remains in those who can have a little extra faith that everyone here is doing all they can to ensure that all future vacations are safe. It’s a peace of mind for those who need it.

While the northeast part of the beautiful Gulf of Mexico works hard to preserve its beauty and health, the state of Florida remains untouched by the effects of the oil crisis — which of course means, Sanibel and Captiva Islands are just as magically wonderful as always. And while nature can always change her mind, all projections at this point are that our natural beauty will remain as is.
For your information, you can always keep up with the very latest beach conditions by visiting our highly-popular “Captiva Beach Live” cam right here — now one of the “official” beach vistas for the Lee County Visitor and Convention Bureau.
And if this gorgeous view isn’t enough to convince you to come visit now, how would a FREE NIGHT ON US sound? Simply stay three or more days, and you’ll enjoy an additional one FREE — plus FREE, a $100 dining certificate? Wow. Wow. And yes, wow.
