Just enough naughty and a whole lot hilarious, the new Drag Queen Bingo inside the Crow’s Nest Bar & Grille at ‘Tween Waters Island Resort & Spa on Captiva Island made immediate fans of me and my husband.
It was serendipitous, really. I had read about ‘Tween Waters trying out this new thing, but I didn’t realize it had become a weekly Wednesday night event. Evidently I was the only one who was clueless, because when we walked into the bar for a nightcap after dinner at Old Captiva House, we found every table and all but one bar chair filled. So, yes, make reservations if you plan to attend. Luckily, a high-top table emptied and we scrambled to fill it.
A couple of friends walked by looking for a place to land as we were sipping our cocktails, so we invited them to share our table, and the non-stop laughs began. Two statuesque, surprisingly shapely, and totally blinged-out drag queens strode the dance floor, teasing and cajoling the crowd in good fun and New York accents.
One blonde, one brunette with enough makeup to make Tammy Faye (remember her?) look like the girl next door, the duo go by the stage names Sizzie Griddles and Trixie Towers.
Let me warn you: This is NOT a family show. ‘Tween Waters has built a bit of an edgy reputation with its Halloween bashes of yore and double-entendre-laced Crab Race quips, but this goes the distance. Prudish? Skip Drag Queen Bingo in favor of a nice walk on the beach.
Oh, yeah. And I almost forgot. Bingo. That’s the platform upon which this whole bawdy show gets served. Buy 18 game sheets for only $15, and you might win a prize such as a free dessert at Old Captiva House or a complimentary cocktail. But expect a little ribald ribbing with that prize. This is NOT your grandma’s Captiva!
